We love seeing Rebels FIGHT FOR FREEDOM in creative ways! A high school student sent us this poem after he received a presentation from one of our team members. Real and raw, Armand addresses sex trafficking from a blunt perspective. Any feelings of shock are immediately sobered by the realization that he is describing reality.

Friends

Everyone’s for sale
you can buy anyone you want
you can buy her for profit
you can buy her to taunt

Everyone’s for sale
these streets are filled with regret
for a hefty fee you can take her home as a pet
gender doesn’t matter in the RLD*
all freaks are welcome, there’s more than just me
Dress them up however you please
pigtail, ponytail, make sure they’ll bleed
sooner or later they’ll break in the end
it’s just their arms, they’ll always stand in the end

Everyone’s for sale
this one just came from the Metro
beneath this hell is another lake of fire
great place to socialize, honey, don’t worry
but the john* won’t like it if your jaw starts hurting

Everyone’s for sale
these streets are filled with regret
for a hefty fee you can take her home as a pet
gender doesn’t matter in the RLD
all freaks are welcome, there’s more than just me

Dress them up however you please
pigtail, ponytail, make sure they’ll bleed
sooner or later they’ll break and they’ll bend
it’s just their arms, they’ll always stand in the end

Everyone’s off duty
rubbing pennies together for another fix
the lust roams through these halls, so swift
confinement and missionary, they call it the night shift

The only thing they know how to do
is get on their knees for someone new
they’ve been used and abused beyond belief
Stockholm Syndrome’s like a thief

Everyone’s for sale
these streets are filled with regret
for a hefty fee you can take her home as a pet
gender doesn’t matter in the RLD
all freaks are welcome, there’s more than just me

Everyone’s off duty
rubbing pennies together for another fix
the lust roams through these halls so swift
confinement and missionary, they call it the night shift

Obeying their orders like they’re told
being toyed with until they’re cold
protect your head and pray for love
cause in the place you’re going, you won’t be seeing any doves

It starts out local
then it’s statewide
from 9 to 5

until you’ve up and died
*RLD - abbreviation for Red Light District, a term used to describe a street where the only businesses are brothels or ones that provide sexual services to customers.
*john - slang for a sex buyer; the customer of a prostitute.

About The Author

Sex Trafficking can be a tricky topic to talk about, especially on paper. Growing up, that phrase would’ve been so foreign to me that I would’ve completely looked the other way and just ignored it. But now, especially at this age, I thank God I that I am familiar with what it stands for, but more importantly that there is an organization dedicated to fighting what I personally believe is the most heinous act of humanity currently happening right now.

The first time I heard about this cause was when a former English teacher of mine, came to the school just to talk about this topic. It was absolutely devastating to me, it crushed me to think that this was happening right past my house, and throughout the world for that matter. I remember going home from school and just being confused; this wasn't something that was being reported on CNN or Fox or 12 News. I had never heard about it, and I know for a fact that my friends and family didn’t know what it really stood for.

Why I wrote this poem was based off of one thing: anger. On one hand, I was angry about what Sex Trafficking is and what it stands for as a whole. On the other hand, I was angry about the fact that I could not do anything about it. Long story short, I wrote the poem to express my rage, and spent a week writing it until I completely justified my anger and my thoughts and everything on the situation. I watched documentaries upon documentaries until I felt like I was about to be sick to my stomach about the whole thing. Even now thinking about it puts my stomach in a loop.

Sex Trafficking is important to me because everyone has a voice and it is their god-given right to use it. But not them. What can they do? The only time they can use their voice is when they’re told to. Why should I sit here and talk about what this means to me when they, the ones who are in this mess, cannot? If the victims cannot speak for themselves, then I will gladly stand up, and be their voice. The time is now, and now’s a better time than ever.

-Armand, High School Student

Wow. Thank you for sharing this. While the words may be shocking, we live in a society that accepts so many shocking things as normal. Sometimes it takes a lot to be moved by something. This is moving.

I am a survivor. I was able to flee my trafficker and escape that life just over three years ago. I completed a recovery program and received a scholarship to university. Everything in my life is completely different now than it once was. However there are times that even simple things like the sidewalk haunt me. Reading this poem was near impossible. But word by word I was so encouraged that even someone who does not have a personal perspective would care so much. I was slightly shocked by how accurate the descriptions are. It's as if this writer walked beside me on some of those nights. Thank you for your compassion.

This poem is beautiful, it explains the life of a sex slave. Even though you didn’t go through it you captured some insight on what hey go through. I read you poem at least ten times ad it brought tears to my eyes. WE NEED TO STOP THIS people are not objects to be bought we have rights. And if they can’t escape on their own we need to escape them do it.
